My Favorite Things

Alex J. Cavanaugh is hosting a blogfest today! And it's an interesting one. Favorite Genre of Movie, Book, and Music. Then a Guilty Pleasure of any of the 3....Hmmm.

Favorite Genre of Movie. That's pretty simple. Sci-Fi. I'm pretty sure it's because these movies have it all. Thrill, plot, romance, explosions, comedy...everything. Yes. They can be terrible. But Serenity? Amazing.  Aliens. Star Wars (of course). I would even argue that the way TV is going now, it's becoming better then movies. The Walking Dead! C'MON! Firefly. Nuff said.

Favorite Genre of Book. That's harder. It would be such an easy thing to say fantasy/sci-fi. But honestly, I don't know. I read a hell of a lot of murder mysteries. I have a ton of historical fiction on my shelves. But yes. The books I buy are epic fantasy. Rothfuss. Rawn. Orson Scott Card. I love getting lost in the world. Getting immersed in the different culture.

Music. Simple. Jazz. Hands down. Something about the chaos of the music. It's visceral. Earthy. Hot. Painful. Everything you need music to be. Coltrane, Miles Davis, Ella Fitz, Billie Holiday. Music today wouldn't be what it is now without these amazing musicians.

Guilty pleasure...hmmm. Probably in Movies, Period Dramas. I love sitting down and watching movies set in Victorian times! The Drama! The Beheadings! The Clothing! The Angry Church-Guys! Seriously...they were all so ...Angry...Awesome.

That's it for me! Check out Alex's Linky List for more participating in this Wicked Fun Blogfest!

  5. You're one of the first to put jazz. I have a soft-spot for big bands and trumpeters (Ferguson, Alpert). It was so much fun to read about your favorite things. Great blog hop! :-)

  8. So, since you like period movies, I must ask. Ever seen North and South?

Being a nerd, yes, very cool.
And Doctor Who makes it even cooler.

    Allons-y!

  9. The dynamatic Blogger design isn't a framework I see often, but it is cool. Too bad I'm hesitant of applying it onto my own blog (and risk losing the prominent placement of the email form), but I did apply it for my mobile interface.

And now I'm one of your minions. Got it from any particular place, like Heather Brewer?

    1. Hey! I like the LOOKS of the dynamic..but hoodoggie. it certainly doesn't behave very well. The comments in particular...yikes!

I honestly had pulled the minions from a particular professor from my past... :) He'd lambasted me for using the word in an oral presentation (Even though I was kinda kidding..) and it became a joke for the rest of the semester. I hadn't heard of Heather Brewer. Her stuff looks good though!

  11. Hi, Alicia,

Dropped in for the blogfest. So nice to meet you. Love the layout of your blog and the name. A former chef ... how cool!

I, too, LOVE period movies. It is an awesome feeling to live though the lives of others from days gone by. And the melodic sound of jazz is so soothing a rejuvenates the soul.

You seem relatively new to the community .... it is a AWESOME society. I look forward to getting to know you better.... You will learn so much. I know I did in the two years I have been blogging.

  12. We have music in common. I'm a big Billie Holiday fan, and a fan of jazz and blues.
Yet Bob Dylan is who I picked for my music choice.

The name of your blog intrigued me. I read and write scifi, and mystery.
